people actually want to claim they have suffered more than someone else

Dialog:
- Port:
  - You know what is kind of crazy? That people actually want to claim they have suffered more than someone else.
  - They want to win a suffering contest.
- Starboard:
  - If someone just barely wins a suffering contest, the extra suffering of losing might really make the other person the winner.
  - But, when the winner is changed the previous winner suffers through having victory taken from him. That could again change who the winner is.
- Port:
  - Oh, no! A suffering loop!
  - It might only stop when their buffers overflow!
